NREMT EMT

EMTs give emergency care in the field and during transport. The NREMT exam is adaptive and tests the job as it is done: scene size-up and safety, primary assessment, secondary assessment, treatment and transport, and EMS operations.

States license EMTs, and most of them use National Registry certification, earned by passing this exam, for initial licensure. NREMT certified 101,758 new EMTs in 2025. NREMT, 2025 annual report.
