Asking for an accommodation

This summarizes the process the owner or vendor describes. It is not a legal or medical opinion and it does not say who qualifies. Questions about your own situation go to the owner or vendor.

How to ask for an accommodation

The bulletin says applicants who need alternative arrangements submit a test accommodations request to PSI. Documentation is uploaded to PSI. A blind or visually impaired candidate who needs a screen reader for a remote exam checks a self-certification box at registration instead of submitting medical documentation.

Approval before you book

Not stated on the page we read. The bulletin does not say whether approval must come before booking. It does say to contact PSI if you need a special accommodation, in its list of what to do before the exam.

On the day

ID

Bring one valid, unexpired government-issued ID with a photo and a signature. At a test center it can be a driver's license from any state, a California ID card, a passport or passport card, a military ID, an employment authorization card or a permanent resident card. An out-of-state ID card is not accepted. The online list is shorter. The name must match your registration.

Not allowed in the room

No personal items: phones, calculators, cameras, smart watches or glasses, wristwatches, ear buds, recording devices or any electronic device, plus weapons, purses, backpacks and wallets. No dictionaries, books, papers or reference materials. No eating, gum or drinking. Items go in your vehicle or a locker.

Online proctoring

PSI offers a remote online proctored version of every insurance license exam. For the remote exam all personal items are removed from the work area, you must be alone in a private room, food, drinks and breaks are not allowed, and you may not leave the station. Scratch paper is not allowed unless the remote proctor gives express permission.

Changing or cancelling

You can cancel and reschedule without losing the fee if PSI gets notice at least two business days before the exam, by its website or phone; a voicemail or email does not count. For a remote exam, the bulletin says not starting within 15 minutes after the booked time forfeits the exam fee.
