CompTIA sets the rules for this exam and Pearson VUE delivers it. This sheet lists what their pages say, each with the day we read it. If a rule matters to you, open the linked page and confirm it before you book, because owners change rules without notice.

Asking for an accommodation

This summarizes the process the owner or vendor describes. It is not a legal or medical opinion and it does not say who qualifies. Questions about your own situation go to the owner or vendor.

How to ask for an accommodation

Requests go through CompTIA's online Reasonable Adjustments Request System on the Pearson VUE site. You register with an email address and the last step is uploading your supporting documents. Each request is judged case by case and you are emailed when a decision is made.

Approval before you book

Pearson VUE says accommodations cannot be added to an exam you have already scheduled. After approval a determination letter explains how to schedule the accommodated exam, so the request comes before the booking.

How long review takes

Pearson VUE asks you to allow 10 business days for review after you submit. It gives no time frame for an appeal.

Documents the owner asks for

The page says your evaluator, usually a psychologist or doctor, supplies a diagnostic report or detailed letter that follows CompTIA's Guidelines for Evaluators. School records such as an IEP or transcripts are listed as optional. If you are under 18 or have a legal guardian, a parent or guardian completes a Guardian Consent Form.

On the day

ID

Bring two original, unexpired IDs, a government-issued primary ID with a photo and a secondary ID. The first and last name on both must match your registration exactly, and the IDs must be issued by the country where you test. For OnVUE, U.S. military IDs cannot be used. Exceptions must be approved by Pearson VUE customer service at least three business days before the appointment.

Arrival and check-in

OnVUE check-in starts 30 minutes before the appointment: technology checks, photos of you and your ID, and a 360 degree scan of the room. If a requirement is not met you cannot test and the fee is forfeited. The CompTIA pages we read give no test center arrival time, so we publish none; your Pearson VUE confirmation email is where to look.

Not allowed in the room

For an OnVUE online exam, Pearson VUE lists as not allowed: phones, tablets, headphones, earbuds, styluses and watches (some exceptions), a second or touchscreen display, VPNs and corporate or shared networks, and anything on or within arm's reach of the desk other than the computer and approved items. You must be alone in a quiet room for the whole exam. The CompTIA pages we read list no test center prohibited items, so we publish none for a test center.

Online proctoring

CompTIA offers online exams through Pearson OnVUE. You are recorded by webcam during the session; CompTIA says candidates who do not want to be recorded should test at a Pearson VUE test center.

Changing or cancelling

At a test center you must reschedule or cancel at least one full business day (24 hours) before the appointment; for an online exam you may reschedule up to the start time. A later change or a no-show forfeits the exam fee.
