GitHub Copilot (Microsoft / GitHub)
GitHub Copilot is the AI pair-programmer integrated into GitHub.com, Visual Studio Code, JetBrains IDEs, Neovim, and the GitHub CLI. The product launched in technical preview in June 2021 and went generally available in June 2022. It is the largest-distribution AI coding assistant in the industry: GitHub reported more than one million paying Copilot subscribers in October 2024. The underlying models include OpenAI Codex (initial release), GPT-4 variants, and Anthropic Claude (added 2024).
