Stanford HAI (Human-Centered AI Institute)

Stanford HAI is the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, founded in 2019. HAI ships the annual AI Index Report (the canonical reference for industry-level AI metrics on compute, investment, capability benchmarks, and policy), operates the Center for Research on Foundation Models (CRFM) which publishes model evaluation benchmarks including HELM, and convenes policy work across academia, industry, and government. The 2025 AI Index Report is widely treated as the reference baseline for state-of-the-AI-industry numbers.
