Julian Calvo
Ed.D., M.S.
Founder & Chief Learning Scientist, DecipherU
Julian Calvo is the founder of DecipherU, the cybersecurity and Applied AI career intelligence platform built around the three tech careers that survive AI compression: elite enterprise tech sales, AI and cybersecurity operators and implementors, and a leaner C-suite. His research focuses on how assessment-driven career matching can improve workforce outcomes when most of the middle of the office economy is being compressed by AI.
Julian designed the DecipherU Framework, a career-matching system that pairs Holland's RIASEC personality model with cybersecurity and Applied AI behavioral assessments to recommend a best-fit role across 50+ cybersecurity and 36 Applied AI paths. Every recommendation is grounded in primary peer-reviewed research and BLS data, not pop business books.
What this credential stack means for the platform
Ed.D. Learning Sciences
Why every assessment ships with a documented validation methodology and not a vendor's marketing claim.
M.S. Applied AI specializing in Cybersecurity
Why the AI Impact Outlook on every role is anchored on NIST AI RMF and current research, not opinion.
Cybersecurity B2B sales + product background
Why the platform treats cybersecurity sales careers as first-class, not as an afterthought to the technical track.
Why this platform exists
The founder saw AI compression in education first. Then in tech. Then he built the platform he would have wanted.
Julian spent his early career in B2B SaaS sales and product, then moved into education research. The doctoral program at the University of Miami School of Education was where he first saw AI compression hit a field he loved. Assessment work that took grad students weeks could be done in minutes by an LLM. Curriculum decisions that took committees of senior faculty could be sketched by a single prompt. The work that survived was the work AI could not do without a human standing behind it: judgment, accountability, primary-source rigor, lived experience.
The same pattern was already showing up in tech. Junior analyst roles, generalist PM roles, mid-tier sales roles. The middle of every office-economy function was getting thinner. The ends, the elite practitioners at the top decile and the disciplined operators who could be held accountable for production AI failures, were getting more valuable. Three tech careers in particular were not just surviving but growing: elite enterprise tech sales, AI and cybersecurity operators and implementors, and the lean C-suite that would still be needed when most middle-management layers consolidated.
That was the thesis. The platform had to exist because no one was teaching it that way. Coursera was selling breadth. SANS was selling cybersecurity-only technical certifications. Reforge and Maven were selling recent-practitioner cohort playbooks. Cybrary was selling vocational training. The market needed a career intelligence platform built around the actual survivor thesis, grounded in primary peer-reviewed research and BLS data, that would tell the scared mid-career professional honestly which tracks were reachable from their starting point and which ones the data said were not.
Julian re-credentialed at Northeastern in M.S. Applied AI specializing in Cybersecurity to make sure the AI security engineering and operations content was authored with the rigor the field deserves. He built the AI Risk Score, a 6-question 2-minute assessment that maps a user to one of the three survivor tracks deterministically (no LLM in the path; audit-defensible under EU AI Act and GDPR Article 22). He authored seven elite courses, each with a published-rubric capstone, citing primary research instead of pop business books. He kept the platform trilingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese-Brazilian) because the survivor thesis is not US-only.
DecipherU is the platform Julian would have wanted at 28, 35, 42. It is built for the scared mid-career cybersecurity or Applied AI professional who can feel the compression in their daily work and wants a disciplined plan grounded in primary research, not a hype course. Everything on the surface flows from that single thesis.
