When must a driver use headlights at night in New York?
- A From one hour after sunset until one hour before sunrise each day
- B From 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise
- C Only when the street is not lit
- D Only on highways after midnight
Example answer, marked sure: A · Correct answer: B
The manual lists this period as one time headlights are required. They are also required when visibility is under 1,000 feet, when wipers are needed, and in fog, dawn, and dusk. A is wrong: the period begins 30 minutes after sunset. C is wrong: street lighting does not change the rule. D is wrong: the rule applies on all roads. Remember: headlights on between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise.
