OT security roles are hard to fill because candidates need both cybersecurity knowledge and understanding of industrial operations. Show familiarity with specific OT protocols, the Purdue model, and real-world OT incidents. If you have hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, or SCADA systems, highlight it. Demonstrate that you understand why safety and availability take priority over confidentiality in OT environments.

OT security is a premium specialization due to the small talent pool. Emphasize any direct OT experience (energy, manufacturing, water, transportation). GICSP certification adds significant credibility. Roles at critical infrastructure operators, defense contractors, and OT security product companies (Dragos, Claroty, Nozomi Networks) pay above-market rates. Remote opportunities are limited since many roles require on-site access to industrial facilities.
